NCR CEO Lars Nyberg resigns

CEO of NCR, Lars Nyberg, has resigned to address family matters.

As of March 14, Nyberg will be replaced by President Mark Hurd, although Nyberg will continue in the role of non-executive chairman of the NCR board.

Nyberg, 51, has been with NCR since 1995 and directed it through its spin-off from AT&T in 1996 and its return to profitability.

"There is still much to do," Nyberg said. "And I regret having to leave the CEO position before my work is finished."

Hurd, 46, joined NCR in 1980, took over management of the company's Teradata data warehousing business in 1999 and was named president in 2001, the company said. He gained the additional title of chief operating officer in September.

"NCR has refocused on global businesses where the company can build and sustain market leadership positions," Hurd said. "With that direction in place throughout the organisation, NCR is on a path to deliver on its potential for operational excellence and value creation."
