Fujitsu Australia has been appointed as principal ICT support partner to TAFE Queensland, marking the partnership with a $60 million contract.
This takes the deal off the hands of Unisys, which had it for nearly two decades.
Following an extensive tender process, this partnership will enable Fujitsu to provide large-scale, critical services including service desk, end user computing, infrastructure management, network - LAN support, and cross functional services across TAFE Queensland's six regions.
It will also see an investment in an additional 50 back office administrative roles in Fujitsu's Queensland team to deliver the support services. The contract also includes 38 locally-based support staff across Australia.
TAFE Queensland CEO, Jodi Schmidt, said the support partnership will be key in supporting TAFE Queensland’s continued delivery to its 120,000 students annually.
“As the largest and most experienced provider of further education and training in Queensland, it is essential we have access to the most innovative, efficient and effective ICT services.
“We’re excited to begin this new relationship with Fujitsu and to have their support as we continue to provide the market’s best training experience,” Schmidt said.
Fujitsu A/NZ CEO, Mike Foster, mentioned that the new contract provides “significant cost savings” through the use of technology and includes additional services to staff and students that were not available under the previous arrangement.
As part of the contract, Fujitsu will apply the metrics of its ICT Sustainability Benchmark to provide an assessment of TAFE Queensland opportunities that Foster said will improve the cost effectiveness of delivering ICT services.

The transition to Fujitsu as the new TAFE Queensland ICT service provider is underway and due to be completed early in 2017.
