OrcaTech distribution launches in A/NZ in cyber security play

Signs Malwarebytes as foundation vendor

Australia has a brand new distributor, OrcaTech, which is making a play at the cyber security market.

The Sydney-headquartered company has signed malware detection and prevention company, Malwarebytes, as a foundation vendor.

The agreement is the second such deal for the vendor in Australia and adds to its existing agreement with Cloud Distribution.

According to a company statement, OrcaTech offers best of breed products in its specific areas of security expertise and focuses heavily on partner enablement to ensure partners have the necessary access to sales, technical and marketing tools to succeed in a highly competitive industry.

An OrcaTech spokesperson told ARN the company will place initial focus on the mid market and enterprise segments. It will target cyber security vendors in the $3 million to $30 million range and will work with any partner looking to expand its cyber security offerings.

“It’s an area where we can add value, and it is still one of the fastest growing segments of the overall IT market,” the spokesperson added. “Further, cyber security is a market segment we know very well and have significant experience with, from both a vendor and partner perspective.”

“By working with Vendors in the $3 [million] to $30 million range, we can give the level of attention and focus that large distributors can’t give, by virtue of their size.

“Large distributors add value through operational efficiency they can move large volumes of commodity product, and reach out to vast numbers of partners. If you are a smaller niche security vendor, you typically don’t have the volume and you’re not trying to move your product through hundreds of partners. These are the people we want to work with where we can add value by getting to know their product and working with partners that are willing to invest time in incorporating these products into their overall solution,” the spokesperson said.

Regarding Malwarebytes, OrcaTech marketing manager, Jelena Milosevic, said that as customers demand robust security solutions from their trusted providers, Malwarebytes has successfully risen to the occasion with uniquely positioned solutions to drive the scalable and comprehensive protection that customers require.

“We see a great opportunity to help elevate Malwarebytes’ value proposition into the medium and enterprise-sized business markets as the nature of what they do resonates across all industries,” she added.

“We look forward to offering managed services providers, resellers and ultimately end user customers a high degree of support, focus and commitment for Malwarebytes in the Australian market.”

Malwarebytes A/NZ regional director, Jim Cook, said OrcaTech’s skills and experience will add additional value to the company’s resellers and managed services partners while continuing to support customers.

The vendor’s current reseller partners include Somerville Group, Computer Merchants, The Missing Link, and NetOpt - it also boasts a local install base of over 100,000 users.
