Kaspersky Lab taps former McAfee talent to lead APAC

Former regional MD returns to operations manager role

Kaspersky Lab has appointed Stephan Neumeier as its new managing director for Asia Pacific as the vendor's existing regional chief, Maxim Mitrokhin, returns to his previous role as operations director.

The company said, in a statement, that Neumeier will play a key role in growing the business in more than 25 countries across the Asia Pacific region.

“His priorities will include strengthening partner relationships, extending the company’s retail footprint, and driving business development to meet growing business and consumer needs for effective cyber-protection,” the company said in a statement.

According to Kaspersky Lab, Mitrokhin's step down to his previous role as operations director will allow him to focus on operational management, optimising company processes and improving corporate performance within the region.

Neumeier is also expected to lead the Asia Pacific team in carrying out the company’s strategy to further develop and continue the growth in both commercial and enterprise cyber security, with strong focus into critical verticals such as "industrial cyber security".

“With Stephan’s extensive industry experience in the sales / channel and distribution world, we are confident that he will be able to help our partners in the region grow further and faster, building stronger and more successful client and partner relationships,” Kaspersky Lab chief sales officer Alexander Moiseev said.

Neumeier joins the company from software vendor, Unify, where he was a senior vice-president.

Prior to this he had stints at Avaya, San Disk and McAfee, where he held senior management and channel roles.

“I look forward to strengthening the company’s leadership in the region," Neumeier said.

"You don’t often get the chance to work in such a passionate environment where everyone is committed to making the cyber-world a safer place.

"The swift and comprehensive analysis of Kaspersky Lab on the recent massive WannaCry ransomware attack is a validation of the company’s dedication towards ensuring its support to its partners and customers across the globe and this is something that I’m excited to be a part of."

The regional reshuffle comes less than a week after Kaspersky Lab appointed Anastasia Para Rae to the role of general manager of Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ),replacing the recently departed Peter Brady.

Drawing on 20 years of industry experience, Rae joins the security vendor from Datacom, after spending the past six months as a learning and development specialist for the technology provider.
