Buttonwood has been approved on the whole-of-government cloud services panel, as the Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) green lights the availability of Buttonwood Cloud Exchange platform.
In adopting a cloud-first policy, the Canberra start-up’s approved listing allows government departments to increase cloud adoption, while investing in new management tools.
Launched in September 2015, Buttonwood specialises in creating a cloud platform designed to remove cost and complexity from hybrid deployments.
“We developed Buttonwood to meet the needs of government as they look to transition to a ‘cloud-first’ operating model,” Buttonwood managing director Allan King told ARN.
“Our cloud offerings, that include the Cloud Broker, Cloud Workspace and Cloud Analytics, are helping organisations avoid bill shock, control cloud sprawl and govern shadow IT at a fraction of the cost of competing solutions.”
In also heading up Canberra-based integrator Infront Systems, King said the DTA’s initiative - developed in support of the Federal Government’s cloud-first policy - will drive greater access to improved cloud services.
“The panel gives government direct access to approved cloud services, without needing to approach the market,” he added. “This creates efficiencies across the board and gets government to cloud faster.”
The approved panel listing follows the release of Buttonwood Cloud Exchange (BCX), which spans three core products, including Cloud Broker, Cloud Workspace and Cloud Analytics.
Delving deeper, Cloud Broker aims to simplify multi-cloud orchestration and management, across platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud and Vault Systems.
Meanwhile, Cloud Workspace aggregates software-as-a-service (SaaS), corporate web and virtual applications, in a bid to support automated account activation, application provisioning, financial management and policy enforcement.
Completing the three-part offering, Cloud Analytics provides operational and financial insights in cloud environments, which includes on-premise VMware and Nutanix platforms.
“With our new release, we have made sure that we have the integrations and the procedures necessary to automate financial governance, ensuring both administrators and end-users alike can confidently use cloud with low risk and high return,” King explained.
King said that as the latest version updates, the start-up’s integration ecosystem continues to expand in parallel.
Specifically, the solution is fully integrated with Vault Systems, representing one of three Australian companies with the “protected” level of certification from the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD).
“Vault is not only a government certified cloud provider, but also a local SME that is standing up and delivering the innovation need to ensure prosperity in cloud,” King added. “We are proud to be integrating with them, and becoming part of their mission.”
