Tech retailers top NSW complaints tally

Android Enjoyed was the subject of 45 complaints during the month.

Android Enjoyed, Samsung, Kogan, Apple and Harvey Norman were among the most complained about businesses in NSW during February.

The latest list by the NSW Fair Trading Complaints Register, which tallies up businesses that have been the subject of 10 or more complaints to NSW Fair Trading, is topped by online electronics retailer, Android Enjoyed, with 45 complaints against its name during the month.

Following the online retailer was electronics and home goods retailer, Harvey Norman, with 39 complaints against its name.

Coming in third, with 34 complaints, was Samsung Electronics, which was followed by online tech retailer, Kogan, which claimed 33 complaints.

Apple was fifth on the latest tally, receiving 29 complaints against its name, followed by online ticket seller, Viagogo, and Camera Sky, the online camera retailer which is owned and loperated by the same parent company as Android Enjoyed, which was the subject of 25 complaints.

Other technology retailers named in the February tally were The Good Guys, which is owned by JB Hi-Fi, and LG electronics.

Digital Skies Group, the operator of Android Enjoyed, Camera Sky and online watch store, Klukker, has found its brands appear on the Complaints Register lists with some regularity, as has Apple, Samsung and Harvey Norman, among others.

In September 2016, Digital Skies Group was put on notice by NSW Fair Trading, with the regulator warning consumers not to deal with the company and its three online stores.

NSW Fair Trading said at the time it had received numerous complaints about the company’s online stores, most of which were concerned with the quality of the goods sold, the acceptance of payment without the supply of goods, the supply of goods not suitable for the Australian market, and other local consumer law breaches.

Kogan, meanwhile, is a relative newcomer to the list, with January marking the first time the online technology retailer was included in the tally since its inception in July 2016.

Out of the 27 complaints NSW Fair Trading received against Kogan in December last year (as reported in January) the top ones were related to electronics and whitegoods (10) and mobile devices and accessories (nine).

The Complaints Register tally for January (as reported in February) also saw technology retailers dominate, with Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Kogan, Apple, Samsung Electronics and Android Enjoyed all being named among the top 10.
