Complaints surge sees tech retailer targeted by the NSW Govt

Android Enjoyed faces fresh warnings as electronics and IT retailers once again dominate the NSW Government's consumer complaints tally

Electronics and IT retailers have once again dominated the latest consumer complaints tally compiled by NSW Fair Trading, with Kogan, Android Enjoyed, Apple and Samsung all among the top 10.

The most recent NSW Fair Trading Complaints Register list, which tallies up businesses that have been the subject of 10 or more complaints to NSW Fair Trading during any given month, saw online electronics retailer Android Enjoyed in the top spot for the second month running.

The retailer, which is owned and operated by parent company Digital Marketing and Solutions Pty Ltd was the subject of 50 complaints received by the state government agency during the month.

According to NSW Minister for Better Regulation Matt Kean, companies owned by Digital Marketing and Solutions have featured on the monthly register on a total of 18 occasions.

Another of the company’s brands, CameraSky, also appears on the latest list, with 28 complaints against its name.

In September 2016, the company was put on notice by NSW Fair Trading, with the regulator warning consumers not to deal with the company and its three online stores.

“Fair Trading has previously issued an enforceable undertaking against the company, and for a short time that appeared to be making a difference,” Kean said. “But sadly it was short-lived, as they are not only back, but once again topping the list.”

Kean said that the return appearance on the list by Android Enjoyed and CameraSky had prompted NSW Fair Trading to re-issue a public warning against the retailer.

“I’m focused on making sure that consumers are being put first in this state,” Kean said. “That’s why I’ve directed Fair Trading to investigate what further action can be taken against Android Enjoyed, and its parent company.

“Their disappointing business practises are totally unacceptable, and consumers shouldn’t have to cop that,” he said.

Other top tech resellers in the latest list include online electronics retailer Kogan (ASX:KGN), which had 46 complaints against its name, placing it second from the top for the month of March.

In fourth place was Apple, with 30 complaints, followed by Samsung Electronics, also with 30 complaints. Harvey Norman, meanwhile, had 29 complaints against its name, while fellow electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi (ASX:JBH) was the subject of 13 complaints.
