Data, security, voice and cloud distributor, Telarus, has inked a partnership to provide Rackspace managed cloud solutions to the Australia and New Zealand marketplace.

Telarus A/NZ head of channel, Tony Heywood, said the trans-Pacific relationship will be "instrumental" to the success of its agency partners, value-add resellers and managed service providers in the market.

“It brings reliable cloud solutions that are in high demand by our sales partners and their business customers,” Heywood said.

Rackspace regional partner leader, Vicki Patten, added that Telarus was a premier master agent, offering the provider "flexible" cloud infrastructure and applications to drive business value to partners.

Telarus has been ramping up its A/NZ play since appointing Heywood in April as part of its global expansion plans.

Based in the US, Telarus – not to be mistaken for the similarly named Australian subsidiary of telecommunications and IT services company, Over the Wire – is a value-add distributor.

The privately-owned company’s platinum partners include CenturyLink, Comcast Business, Five9 and Viasat. Other partners include Telstra, Verizon Business, NTT Communications and Rackspace.

In May, the distributor also inked a global partner agreement with cloud collaboration vendor, RingCentral. At the same time, RingCentral opened an Australian office and hired Ben Swanson as its director of channel sales for APAC.

Heywood, who has been setting up the Australian version of Telarus, is also driving an agency model concept, in which third-party cloud brokers are recruited, trained, and supported to advise clients on which cloud communications and/or infrastructure services are right for them.

The residual commissions for each account are later paid to Telarus, who pays the corresponding broker that originated the sale (for the life of the account).
