US IT support firm Curvature launches in Australia

Former Cisco director Darren Clarkin named as country head

IT support and services provider Curvature has expanded its footprint in Australia with the opening of local two offices.

The American multi-vendor equipment maintenance company has launched a main base in Sydney and a satellite office in Melbourne as part of an Australia and New Zealand expansion.

The outposts will offer national and international customer service, 24/7 support, hardware replacement and complete IT asset life-cycle management under a consolidated worldwide contract.

“This move ignites our ability to partner more closely with Curvature customers and partners across this vital region,” Curvature CEO Peter Weber said. “By opening offices in Australia, we can respond to escalating demand for our vendor-agnostic services while freeing local customer teams from daily support burdens.”

Founded in 1986 as Network Hardware Resale, the company was originally a secondary market reseller of IBM mainframes, before shifting to Cisco and networking equipment in the 1990s.

Today, the company manages, maintains and upgrades equipment and support for across multiple vendors, networks and data centres, in what it describes as “complete life-cycle management”.

It currently has 12 countries, more than 100 service centres and more than 600 equipment part locations around the world.

The company has operated in Australia for the past 15 years, working through a network of more than 100 channel and go-to-market partners and services providers.

Although it had a number of equipment depots across Australia, its regional sales and engineering team was housed in Singapore. The company did signal an intent to open an office in Australia in 2015, but the plans never materialised.

The Australian operation will be led by country head Darren Clarkin, who previously was at Cisco in Singapore for 12 years, most recently serving as director of global and large accounts for Asia Pacific.

As well as Cisco, he has also held roles at VMware and Lanier Worldwide. “I’m thrilled to join Curvature and help build a sustainable operation in the Australia and New Zealand region,” he said. “Our value proposition is compelling to any organisation faced with the constant need to innovate while still maintaining legacy IT infrastructures.”

The Australian base currently comprises of around seven people, a mix of new hires and formerly Singapore-based employees.
