Unisys has scored a project with the Australian Bureau of Meteorology to design, build and manage a new secure cloud infrastructure in a deal worth roughly $16.4 million.
The initial contract, which will see Unisys modernise the bureau's operations and provide an upgraded WAN, runs for three years and can be extended for a maximum term of nine years.
Unisys Asia Pacific vice president and general manager Rick Mayhew said the new hybrid cloud infrastructure will provide a secure environment to support current services, as well as a modern operating environment with the scalability to implement future requirements.
“Unisys has a wealth of experience helping government organisations transform their environments to provide better, more efficient and secure services using digital technologies, including the public cloud,” he said.
The new deal will give Unisys a chance to display its specific weather expertise from more than 30 years providing weather data and products in the US, working with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
“We look forward to helping the Bureau of Meteorology provide its critical weather services to Australians to keep them informed and arm them with the best information to make safe and informed decisions,” he said.
In March, Unisys picked up a three-year contract with A/NZ healthcare provider Healthscope to implement its security information and event management (SIEM) system and associated services.
Healthscope is a new client win for Unisys and as part of the deal, Unisys will use technology from security analytics and intelligence vendor LogRhythm.
