Systems integrator Outcomex has partnered with National Australia Bank (NAB) to provide the bank’s 400,000-plus small business customers with Cisco’s Umbrella cloud security platform.

The Cisco Umbrella offering, which is aimed at helping NAB’s small business customers better protect their operating systems and provides first line defence against cyber threats, will be launched in November, with the product being offered at a “special preferential” price.

The collaboration was revealed at the Small Business Cyber Security Summit in Canberra on 14 October. NAB’s Chief customer officer, Business and Private Banking, Anthony Healy said during the event that the bank would embark on a small business roadshow to drive education and awareness to help Aussie small businesses defend against threats.

“Cybercrime costs the Australian economy more than $1 billion annually and half of all cybercrime is targeted at small businesses,” Healy said.

“As Australia’s leading business bank, we recognise the important role we can play to help our customers understand how they can better protect their business from cyber criminals.

“Across Australia and often in regional areas, we see hundreds of small businesses and agribusinesses every year who are unfortunately targeted by cyber criminals through tactics like identity theft, romance scams and invoice fraud,” he said.

NAB used the Summit to launch a new ‘tool kit’ for small businesses that provides them with guidance and advice about the types of common threats they should keep an eye out for, including invoice scams or ransomware.

Moreover, the tool kit provides advice on things business owners can do to update their defences, such as encrypting data or employing multi-factor authentication for identity protection.

NAB will embark on its Cyber Security Roadshow in late October with a series of regional events to give its small business customers in Parramatta, Wollongong, Hobart, Frankston, Perth and the Sunshine Coast (4/12) the opportunity to learn new cyber protection skills.
