San Francisco-based data analytics startup Databricks is moving to bolster its presence in the Australian market with the appointment of Bede Hackney as its first A/NZ country manager.
Hackney joins the startup following a two-year stint as the country manager for Tenable. Prior to Tenable, he was also the A/NZ managing director at Nimble Storage and has also worked for VMware, Citrix, Packeteer and NetStar.
In his role, Hackney will leverage his cross-technology leadership experience, alongside his technical background and deep understanding in delivering quality services and solutions.
“Databricks is at the centre of all things data. Our customer use cases speak for themselves - from credit card fraud detection to personalised healthcare, we are helping data teams solve the world’s toughest problems,” Hackney said.
Recently, Databricks, which uses artificial intelligence for its data analytics platform, attracted a US$400 million Series F investment backed by Andreessen Horowitz’s Late Stage Venture Fund, effectively valuing the company at US$6.2 billion.
The funds will be used towards the company’s R&D efforts, hiring more engineers and global expansion across Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America.

Databricks was founded in 2013 and has thousands of customers globally including Shell, HP, Expedia and Comcast, along with partnerships including Microsoft, Amazon. Tableau, Informatica and Capgemini.
