A computer retailer will stand trial for alleged fraud involving customer credit card details and supplier payment statements, according to the securities and investments watchdog.
An employee of Tasmanian computer retailer Tascom will face court on 2 October 2000 on 19 fraud charges involving around $90,000, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) said in a statement.
ASIC alleges the employee was knowingly involved in his company's unauthorised use of customer credit card details and was knowingly involved in his company making false representations to computer equipment suppliers that goods had been paid for.
The offences were carried out between November 1997 and April 1998, the statement said. Tascom, which was a privately-held company, went into receivership in May 1998, ASIC said.
Tascom also traded under the name of Awaretech according to ASIC, but was not contactable by telephone.
