APP OF THE DAY: goCatch

Avoid the usual monkey dance when trying to grab a cab

goCatch
Cost: Free | Developer: Taxi Apps | Platform: iPhone/Android/Windows Phone | Version: 2.0.5 | 6.3 MB |

I hate calling up taxi companies to book a cab which usually involves an automated voice, unreliable voice-prompted instructions, and lengthy waits on hold.

That’s why I was eager to try out goCatch, an app that connects taxi drivers directly with passengers. Drivers that use the app will be able to see passengers that have lodged a request for a taxi through goCatch.

Pick up location and intended destination is clearly stated and passengers also have the option to include a tip to appeal to drivers.

Available taxi drivers and passengers nearly are clearly displayed on a map.

Once a driver responds to a job, the app will play this awesome victory music at the passenger’s end and will show how far away the taxi driver is.

There is also an option to call the driver which is great for peace of mind to make sure the taxi is definitely on its way. No more calling up the taxi company, wait for the operator to contact the driver then get back to you.

The feedback and ratings system is also great for passengers to select a driver when there are a number of taxis nearby.

Pros: Visually pleasing, easy to use, genuinely a useful tool, ratings system very handy, free to download.

Cons: Not very useful when used in outer city suburbs but that may change once the app becomes more popular with taxi drivers.

Verdict: It’s free and a wonderful app to avoid the usual monkey dance when trying to grab a cab.
