Huawei re-appoints Australia Board

Independent commit to additional two-year term with focus on local procurement

Chairman John Lord and independent director, John Brumby and Alexander Downer, have accepted new two-year appointments on Huawei’s local Board of Director, committing to stay with the vendor until December 2015.

According to Lord, the announcement indicates Huawei’s intent to stay local and continue long-term investment in the Australian market.

Huawei founder and CEO, Ren Zhengfei, said the local Board has helped establish a strong foundation for these growth prospects.

“Huawei Australia’s independent directors have shown how local knowledge and expertise can deliver positive results in the local market,” he said.

Moving forward, the local directors said the top priority is continuing Huawei’s localisation strategy by increasing procurement from local ICT suppliers.

Huawei recently hosted two procurement workshops in Sydney and Melbourne, hosting more than 100 registrations from Australian ICT suppliers looking to participate in the vendor’s global supply chain.

The three independents sit on the Australian Board beside global executive director, Jason Li, global director, Chen Lifang, regional president, David Wei, and Huawei Australia CEO, Guo Fulin.

The Australian Board is Huawei’s first localised setup. Its success in the two years since inception has prompted Huawei to expand the modern globally, with key markets expected to announce local Boards “over the coming year.”
