Extreme tackles holistic network analytics

New diagnostic tool helps improve user experience on networks

Extreme Networks have released Purview, an application designed to improve the network experience through integrated diagnostics.

The product is claimed to provide a single view for network management, security and business intelligence, that is compatible with wired devices, wireless and data centres.

Extreme said the application will assist network managers to view activity over Ethernet-based networks. It claims the system is capable of collecting, analysing and reporting application data from an entire network.

At release, the customisable signature set is claimed to support more than 13,000 fingerprints from 7000 applications. IT managers will be able to: analyse traffic across a network; receive reports of application and network performance; and identify use of unapproved or malicious applications and recognise instances of shadow IT.

The company claims that use of the system can meet the growing needs of users, improve the user experience and increase network performance.

Extreme Networks CEO, Chuck Berger, believes the better the network connection, the better the user experience.

“To guarantee a better user experience, the enterprise must see the network as a strategic business asset.”

He said that Purview provides a deeper level of insight, allowing organisations to make well informed decisions quickly and thus improve the user experience.

As a vote of confidence, Purview is the official Wi-Fi analytics solution for the American National Football League (NFL). It is currently deployed across four NFL stadiums, and provided the Wi-Fi analytics for the NFL at Super Bowl XLVIII.
