Silver Peak launches new addition to VRX

Boasts 20 minute replication times

Silver Peak announced the latest addition to its velocity replication acceleration (VRX) suite of software aimed at the professional storage market.

The data mobility firm has added a fourth unit to its VRX series, the VRX-6. Silver Peak said the unit will allow storage professionals using a 300 Mbps wide access network (WAN) to accelerate offsite data replication workloads up to twenty times on average.

The unit is based on Silver Peak’s virtual acceleration open architecture (VXOA). The vendor said the software can be easily implemented and runs on all standard hypervisors. These systems include VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer and KVM.

The manufacturer claims the system is proven with all asynchronous IP-based replication solutions from Dell, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems (HDS), NetApp and others.

Silver Peak director of replication product management, Everett Dolgner, said the launch means business of all sizes are now able to acquire a high performance VRX solution.

“Customers can accelerate replication, backup and data migration without making any changes to the network and taking an outage.”

The company said the VRX software allows professionals to accelerate their replication traffic to less than twenty minutes. The VRX-6 sits in the middle of the range, offering 300 Mbps, averaging 750 GB/hr of replication traffic. The top of the line VRX-8 model claims 1 Gbps, averaging 2 TB/hr of replication traffic. The lower level VRX-4 is said to run at 100 Mbps, averaging 250 GB/hr of replication traffic.
