A third of Australian IT security professionals want a complete system overhaul: Websense

Websense has found 33 per cent of Australian IT security professionals would do a complete overhaul of their current enterprise security system if given the chance.

The Ponemon Institute survey, Exposing the Cybersecurity Cracks: Roadblocks, Refresh and Raising the Human Security IQ, also found half (47 per cent) of respondents were disappointed with the security of procured solutions.

Websense A/NZ country manager, Gerry Tucker, points to how only ten per cent of those survey had never been disappointed with security solutions.

“It’s not surprising that many security professionals are disappointed with the level of protection their current solutions provide, as many still use legacy solutions that cannot disrupt the kill chain to prevent data theft,” he said.

A growing gap

Another discovery was 33 per cent of Australian online security teams never speak with their executive team about cybersecurity, with 22 percent of those who do speaking annually and 21 per cent semi-annually.

When it came to companies investing enough in personnel and technologies to meet the cybersecurity objectives, less than half (43 per cent) of respondents felt the organisation was doing enough.

Tucker said the findings indicate a communication gap between the security and executive teams in dealing with advanced attacks.

“It highlights that a lack of communication, education and inadequate security systems is making it possible for cybercriminals to attack organisations across the globe,” he said.
