iPhone 6s / 7 release date triangulated and confirmed

We're 99% sure of the release date, but what the heck is this thing?

The iPhone 6s release date seems to be beyond doubt now. Apple is confidently believed to be releasing the new models on September 18 in tier-one countries. This will follow a launch date thought to be September 9.

The reason for the near-certainty is a series of three, apparently-unconnected, international leaks that all confirm the date.

Unless it's all just an elaborate ruse by Apple PR. Hmmm...

In IT Blogwatch, bloggers set their alarms.

curated these bloggy bits for your entertainment.

This anonymous German scribbler blabs die Wahrheit:

We were able to find out that the German providers are preparing for September 18th. At least, we've heard from two out of the three providers. ... But we assume that all three German suppliers will simultaneously start selling it. From that day you'll be able to buy an iPhone 6s with contract or without.

We're marking...18 September in red on the calendar.  MORE

And Japanese IT writer 凌空 sets up the ball:

iPhone6s and iPhone6s Plus will be announced...on September 9 in the morning...are scheduled for preorder on the 11th, and the official release date is...September 18.  MORE

Gordon Kelly triangulates these latest leaks against other recent ones:

It is now possible to say with almost 100% certainty when you will be able to buy them.

Following a leaked internal memo from Vodafone last month, prominent Japanese...and German tech [websites] have both discovered that the new iPhone [release date] in their respective countries [is] September 18th. This ties perfectly with the Vodafone internal memo for the UK.

Japan, Germany and the UK are all tier one Apple launch countries with iPhones traditionally being made available to them at the same time as the US.

Meanwhile September 9th continues to be held up as the day Apple will announce. ... Again this dovetails perfectly with the circa 10 day gap Apple likes to have between iPhone announcements and [release date]. ... Roll on September!  MORE

So "Jolly" Roger Fingas steals the limelight:

At least two out of three major German carriers are on board for Sept. 18. ... The two participating companies haven't been identified, but the German wireless market is controlled...by O2, Vodafone, and T-Mobile. ... All three will likely be ready on the same day, since they already carry the iPhone 6.

Germany has long been one of Apple's first-tier launch countries. ... That would therefore [also] point to when the 6s will ship in...Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, the U.K. and the U.S., with mainland China being a possibility.  MORE

Meanwhile, Mihai Matei looks at the weirdest iPhone rendering yet:

Rumors of a 5-inch model being manufactured by Foxconn blipped on our radars. According to the Foxconn insider who shared the sketch...the 5-incher will apparently rock an 8 MP camera, a dual-LED flash, and what seems to be a rather conservative design.

Apple products are extremely susceptible to rumors – some of which never come to pass [but] what the hell are we looking at? ... Apparently what we have here is a sketch depicting the alleged 5-inch iPhone 6s. [It] will pack an 8 MP camera complemented by a dual-LED flash, and will rock a full HD 5-inch display, powered by an A9.

Only time will tell how the story will end. Until more data emerges, tread carefully.  MORE
