Coles along with online stores Kogan and Mwave.com.au have stepped up to help stranded Dick Smith customers.

Dick Smith recently went into receivership appointing, Ferrier Hodgson, which stated that outstanding gift vouchers won't be honoured.

Mwave.com has launched a gift card trade-in scheme, where Dick Smith customers can swap their gift cards or vouchers for in-store credit.

“This is sad news for Dick Smith customers after the Christmas holiday season especially for those who received one as a present,” Mwave.com.au product and marketing manager, Andrew Wang, said.

“With the cards being ultimately worthless, we’re helping those stranded by offering this trade-in scheme where you can swap your Dick Smith gift cards for in-store credit to shop with us. Each gift card trade-in will provide customers with $20 to spend on anything at the store.”

Customers will have to register on Mwave.com.au’s site for an Mwave account and post their Dick Smith card or voucher to the company. Once the Dick Smith card or voucher is received and validated by the company, $20 will be credited into their Mwave account.

Kogan is offering a similar system, where Dick Smith customers can swap their gift cards or vouchers for a $25 Kogan voucher to be used on anything in the company’s online store. However, the gift card exchange is limited to $25 in credit regardless of the value of the Dick Smith card.

“We know it sucks to be out of pocket, which is why we want to help Dick Smith customers by offering them a gift card or voucher swap! Simply post your Dick Smith gift card or voucher along with your details to the address below, and we’ll email you $25 of Kogan.com credit to use on anything at Kogan.com,” it said on its website.

The offer is also limited to one voucher per customer and customers must post their valid Dick Smith gift card to Kogan.com by February 1. Kogan’s credit will then be issued to them by February 14 and valid until the end of March.

As for Coles, its shoppers can exchange Dick Smith gift cards purchased at the supermarket prior to Dick Smith’s administration for Coles vouchers of equal value. It applies to Dick Smith gift cards purchased from Coles since July 1, 2015 and customers will need proof that the gift card was bought from a Coles supermarket.

Shoppers will also need to fill out and post a redemption form found on Coles’ website along with their Dick Smith gift card to Coles by the end of February.

Coles said, in a statement, that the offer is a “gesture of goodwill” to its customers.
