Thycotic launches Australia-hosted secret server cloud

Cyber security vendor Thycotic has launched an Australian-hosted version of its secret server cloud service allowing the channel to handle highly sensitive data without sending it offshore.

The service will offer privileged access management (PAM) whereby data is hosted on the Australian Microsoft Azure cloud within the Canberra Data Centres (CDC).

Within the secret server cloud, customer data is isolated in its own database, with its own cloud infrastructure and private encryption key.

Aimed largely at public agencies who require data to be kept in Australia, the service is currently being used by five unnamed customers.

Thycotic’s announcement follows Microsoft Azure and Office 365s’ designation of  “protected” classification by the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD), giving it the ability to handle classified and highly sensitive government data. 

The service allows the Adelaide-based Thycotic, its Australian distributor emt Distribution and their channel partners to provide PAM solutions to government agencies and other organisations with data sovereignty requirements.

According to Thycotic, Australia’s Notifiable Data Breach (NDB) Act, which forces companies to disclose significant data infringements to their customers, has created a strong incentive for the channel to help organisations to avoid breaches.

NDB’s latest quarterly report revealed 245 notifiable breaches took place between July and September this year. 

“Many Australian organisations still have serious deficiencies in their credential security,” said emt CMO Scott Hagenus. “There is a very real opportunity for channel partners to get ahead of the curve and take control of this process for their customers, and they can do this without long skilling-up periods with hosted PAM solutions.”

Thycotic is now offering its existing customers a migration plan to the secret server.
