Sun, Siebel strengthen ties

Siebel and Sun are forging a software development partnership with a goal of boosting performance of Siebel CRM applications running on Sun's Solaris operating system and Sun ONE middleware stack.

The multi-faceted agreement includes optimiding performance of Siebel applications running on Sun ONE Cluster 3.0 High Availability Agent software, in order to increase application availability. Also part of the arrangement is integrating Sun ONE Portal software with Siebel's Employee Relationship Management software.

No bundling is part of the arrangement, however.

"We are making sure that everything is working together," vice-president and general manager of worldwide alliances at Siebel, Dave Peranich, said. Siebel also is integrating its Universal Application Network software, for linking disparate data structures such as those from Siebel and SAP, with Sun ONE Identity Server to simplify access and logon and provide an added layer of security, Peranich said. Siebel and Sun would also work on co-development and validation of the Sun ONE Web, directory, and messaging servers to enhance the functioning of these products with Siebel applications, he said.
