Altech picks up Omega staff for sales push

Altech Computers has recruited eight ex-Omega staff in account management, sales and technical positions to bolster its retail skillset.

Altech national sales manager, Kevin Hartin, said while Omega's staff boasted strong system sales skills in various areas throughout the channel, they were particularly strong in the retail sector. This was a key market space that Altech had decided to focus on over the past six months.

"Retail is a totally different animal to the reseller channel, so we needed people that were experienced and understood the way the retail channel works," he said. "Our new staff members present us with a great opportunity for us to slide in and fill that void left by Omega's demise."

The new recruits had been positioned throughout the country with two each in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane.

Because all had former experience and contacts at a distribution level, the new staff also gave Altech the ability to reach into other markets, Hartin said.

"Customers are seeking continuity in the people that they deal with as well as in supply, and we have the ability to help maintain that," he said. "Bringing on staff with track records in markets such as the Northern Territory also helps fill out our geographical reach and presents new business opportunities for us."

Rival distributor, TodayTech, has also brought on an Omega staff member for its sales team.
