Groupon extends reach to Brisbane

Stardeals offers available for first time in city

The global Groupon network has expanded its Stardeals coverage to Brisbane.

The shopping website offers daily deals on local goods, services and cultural events.

Stardeals managing director, Patrick Schmidt, said, “Brisbane [has] a lot of great businesses that we’re keen to partner with in order to offer Brisbaneites the very best deals.”

Groupon aims to reach all major Australian capitals by the first half of 2011.

The company’s first step into Australia was the Sydney market which it started offering deals to on February 14. Melbourne followed in March.

Schmidt is pleased with the ongoing expansion into Australia.

”We’ve also pioneered new categories, being the first group-buying site to offer a Lasik eye surgery deal. To date, Stardeals has saved Australian consumers more than $2 million,” he said.

The e-commerce marketing method has allegedly discounted more than $US1.6 billion for subscribers globally.

Groupon was first launched in Chicago on November 2008 and features deals in more than 500 markets worldwide.
