Motorola Solutions wins $10m wireless network tender

Enterprise communications service provider, Motorola Solutions, has bagged a $10 million deal to manage and operate the in-field wireless communications network for BG Group’s LNG projects in Southern Queensland.

QGC, an offshoot of the multinational oil and gas company BG Group, is amid a project to convert gas from coal seams into liquefied natural gas.

The LNG project involves expanding exploration and development in southern and central Queensland, as well as transporting gas through a 540km underground pipeline network to Curtis Island, where it will be liquefied for export.

The five-year deal extends the existing partnership between the two organisations, with Motorola Solutions delivering communication services across the LNG project’s main gas compression sites in Chinchilla, and from the beginning of 2015, on Curtis Island near Gladstone.

Motorola Solutions claims the contract will help QGC realise safety, productivity and efficiency benefits by providing for service performance and network uptime guarantees, ensuring radio services for operations and emergency response management remain uninterrupted.

Last year, Motorola Solutions, in conjunction to QGC, completed a network valued at $32m; the network is one of the largest TETRA wireless networks in Australia.

The microwave and TETRA digital radio system providing a wide area of communications, linking its principal central processing plants in the gas field to its compression stations, main line valve stations, its Chinchilla upstream control room and logistics facility as well as the corporate office in Brisbane.
