Channel urged to participate in charity golf day

ac3 commercial sales director, David Abouhaidar, is encouraging the channel to join him in raising money for Ronald McDonald House and Save our Sons.

He already has the support of gold sponsors HP Enterprise, Ingram Micro, and Hemisphere Technologies..

The Ronald McDonald House is an independent non-profit organisation that provides a range of support for seriously ill children and their families when they need it most. Save our Sons is a children’s charity committed to raising desperately needed funding and awareness to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD).

Abouhaidar said the teams – consisting of sponsor staff and/or customers – aim to raise about $50,000 through this event. At the time of publication, they have raised about $40,000 based on sponsorships alone.

“I’m doing this on behalf of the IT industry. I have a few contacts and together with some friends in the industry, we’re trying to raise as much money for the charities as possible. There might be one or two staff from my team joining me, otherwise it will be some of our customers,” he said.

The event will see the participants engage in a game of golf, followed by dinner and auctions. All proceeds will go to the charities.

“I would like to see the whole IT industry coming together to support charity. This is the first one I’m, doing, and I hope to carry on this tradition in future. What’s the point of being in an industry that makes money if you can’t help people?” he mentioned.

Abouhaidar claimed his passion for children led him to lead this cause. He said doing this would be a good statement for the industry, as well as for the charities.

“Anybody who has got children will understand why these charities are so important. One would never hope that their children would get into a situation like that but god forbid that if they do, there’re people out there that are trying to fight the same fight to assist these children and give them a better life.

“I should have done this 10 years ago and it’s always been a fire burning within me. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. Doing something like this would be sensational on behalf of the whole IT industry,” he added.

The charity golf day will be held on November 26 at Macquarie Links.
