Microsoft creates 120 jobs with new Sydney Inside Sales Centre

Facility to serve all of Asia and add to three existing centres

Microsoft has unveiled plans to build a new inside sales centre for Asia in Sydney, a move which is said will add 120 new jobs.

The vendor chose Sydney as the location for one of its four global Inside Sales Centres and said 120 digital inside sales professionals are being recruited immediately to serve customers from the "state-of-the-art"centre being established in Sydney.

The centre will serve customers across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and in over nine different languages.

Microsoft said it is also establishing three sales satellites in India, China, and Japan to serve customers specifically in each of these local markets.

The Asia Inside Sales Centre joins the vendor’s other centres with others in Dublin, Ireland (serving Europe, the Middle East and Africa); Fargo, USA (serving the US and Canada) and San Jose, Costa Rica (serving Latin America).

“As we continue to digitally transform Microsoft, I am delighted Sydney has been chosen as the location for one of four global Worldwide Inside Sales Centres,” Microsoft Australia managing director, Steven Worrall, said.

“We are committed to our business in Australia and this Inside Sales Centre investment builds on additional local investments, which includes two cloud data centre regions in Australia with local cloud services for Azure, Office 365 and Dynamics 365, and our flagship Microsoft Store in Sydney.

“WW [worldwide] Inside Sales provides an opportunity for talented people with a passion for technology and for helping customers achieve business success to join us and enjoy an exciting and rewarding career at Microsoft. If you start here with us in Inside Sales, you will have the opportunity to develop your career within the company with almost limitless opportunities both here and abroad,” he said.

Microsoft said the recruitment process for the roles in Australia has already begun, but will truly get underway from 11 April, with an ambition to have the multilingual organisation fully operational by mid-2017.

While many roles require language capability or previous sales and technical experience, the company is also seeking to recruit graduates who have the passion and aptitude necessary for these exciting opportunities, the company said.
