    Microsoft Australia managing director Pip Marlow has led a campaign this week to encourage more Australian students to take up computer coding. The company is helping more than 7000 students learn code as part of YouthSpark #WeSpeakCode week. Federal communications minister, Malcolm Turnbull, also delivered a speech, in which he urged students to take up science, technology and mathematics subjects to fill the shortfall of Australian graduates in these areas. The week long campaign saw students from all over Australia try coding with the help of volunteers and teachers. Today, more than 800 students from more than 30 local schools in Sydney learnt to code at the main #WeSpeakCode event being held in the Great Hall of the University of Technology Sydney .

    NICTA held its annual technology Techfest 2015, on February 20, at its Waterloo NSW headquarters. NICTA is Australia's Information and Communications Technology Research Centre of Excellence. The evcnt focuses on how NICTA’s cutting-edge research is improving the way we live and work. Communications minister, Malcolm Turnbull, addressed the conference and said Australia needed an innovation "insurgency" with school children as young as five or six learning computer coding alongside mathematics, science and English.
