Lasseters bets on Solution 6

Internet content and accounting software developer Solution 6 has scored a lucrative deal with Lasseters Casino to redevelop its online gambling facility.

Rushenka Perera, Solution 6's marketing manager, said last week that winning the multimillion-dollar contract was a vote of confidence in its newly acquired IT services business, CVSI.

'Basically this is our second big win since we acquired CVSI,' Perera said. 'We acquired CVSI because of its skill in knowledge management, systems integration and managed sites services. This confirms that it was a good investment for us.'

The Alice Springs-based casino has had its online gambling facility operating since April, but the Solution 6 overhaul will expand its reach into 150 countries as far away as the Middle East and the Caribbean, and allow it to operate 24 x 7.

'The infrastructure has back-up system upon back-up system to ensure reliability and robustness,' Perera said.

The initial $2.2 million outlay will see Solution 6 provide Lasseters with a SAN (storage area network)-centric design. The system has an emphasis on deploying EMC Symmetrix Arrays, Sun Microsystems Unix servers and NT server environments; consolidation of all storage repositories, business continuance and support mechanisms; disaster recovery services and offshore database replication. The improvements will further include a faster operating performance for the players, the ability to scale the solution as required and future expansion for Lasseters globally.

There is also the added challenge of making sure the Web site complies with stringent gambling controls from the Northern Territory Racing and Gaming Authority.

Perera said CVSI has a large blue chip customer base and previous experience in these sorts of projects, but not specifically for an online casino.

The acquisition of CVSI in June this year is part of Solution 6's strategy to expand its services capacity in its core accounting software market, which is particularly important for the development of the knowledge management and application service provider business, she added.
