Dick Smith Electronics' success with two concept superstores in Sydney has led the national electronics and computer retailer to open a third PowerHouse store in the Melbourne suburb of Carnegie.
To feature more than 20,000 products and built to the same dimensions as the recently opened 2000 square metre Penrith, NSW facility (see ARN August 12, page 1), the new store is situated at 1054 Dandenong Road, Carnegie.
"Our Victorian customers have been waiting two years for a PowerHouse and finally they are able to experience everything that our concept stores have to offer," said Jeff Grover, managing director of Dick Smith Electronics.
"Our goal with the PowerHouses is to present the latest technology in electronics, communications and computer-based consumer goods in a fun, informative and non-threatening environment.
"Everything at a Dick Smith Electronics Powerhouse is plugged in, powered up and fully tuned for customers to try out."
As well as products from major brands such as Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Compaq and Toshiba, customers will also be able to design their own DSX-brand PC to suit their exact needs. There are also special upgrade, education and games sections.
Dick Smith Electronics plans to open an unspecified number of new PowerHouse stores in Sydney and Melbourne over the next 12 months or so.
