CHA fills SMB networking void with 3Com deal

With networking high on the agenda of many Australian small-to-medium businesses (SMB), Melbourne-based distributor CHA has snared a national partnership with 3Com to distribute its OfficeConnect family of products, US Robotics modems, Courier V.Everything modems, Megahertz PC Card, and network interface cards for PCs and servers.

3Com, which has already signalled its intentions to capture a sizeable chunk of the Australian modem market, has similar aspirations for the SMB networking space, but the vendor comes up against some healthy competition here from the likes of Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Compaq and, more recently, Cisco.

3Com's Australia-New Zealand managing director Gerhard Rumpff said CHA would enhance the vendor's surge into the SMB market and represent a strong distribution partner to Tech Pacific.

"We believe CHA has the national network and one of the best IT infrastructures to sell and support our products in this booming business sector."

For Roger Bushell, CHA's director of sales and marketing, the addition of 3Com to its distribution stable fills a networking void for the organisation in its bid to provide end-to-end solutions to resellers.

"Until now, we have been able to supply all of the hardware that connects to the network but we've been unable to supply the networking components," Bushell said.

"We see the products from 3Com fitting in extremely well with the Citrix product which we have also recently taken on board," Bushell added.
