Acer cracks major Treasury deal

Acer and its Canberra-based reseller Dataflex have won a major tender to supply desktop PCs to the Commonwealth Treasury of Australia.

Dataflex's involvement is key to the deal, and the initial rollout of 300 PCs was expected to be completed by the end of last month.

However, Trevor Webeck, Treasury's chief information officer claims the value for money offered by the entry-level AcerPower PCs also helped Acer win the tender.

"We evaluated the PCs on their performance using a suite of our own applications and matched that up on a price/efficiency frontier which gave us an efficiency value versus value for money," Webeck said. "Acer was clearly in front for us so we selected them on that basis."

According to Webeck, the AcerPower PCs, which are powered by 266MHz Intel Pentium processors, will improve the performance of Treasury's in-house applications by as much as 120 per cent.
