Microsoft boosts speed of IE 5.0 beta

Microsoft has released a fresh build of Internet Explorer 5.0 to beta testers that significantly improves the browser's speed.

Version 916 includes integration with the MSN Messenger Service, a Go button on the interface, and new search features.

Outlook Express 5.0 has been updated with a Switch Identity feature, newsgroup synchronisation, and an improved Signature functionality, one beta tester said. The new build also further "componentises" the Explorer suite, a goal that Microsoft has set to give IT managers more control.
