Cisco to buy network memory vendor Nemo Systems

Cisco plans to buy a network memory vendor for $12.5 million.

Cisco Systems has signed an agreement to acquire Nemo Systems, a network memory vendor, for US$12.5 million in cash, Cisco announced Friday.

Nemo Systems, based in Los Altos, California, offers "cutting-edge" technology that will be incorporated into Cisco products, according to a Cisco press release. Nemo's technology will allow Cisco customers to scale network systems and line card bandwidth while reducing the cost of networking systems, according to Cisco.

The acquisition is subject to some closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Cisco expects the deal to close by late October. Nemo would become part of Cisco's Data Center, Switching and Security Technology Group, reporting to vice president and general manager Tom Edsall.
