Vocera sees healthy communications sales

US-based vendor, Vocera Communications, has established an Australian subsidiary in Sydney to be headed up by A/NZ sales manager, Tony Lee.

The vendor will be introducing its system software to the market as well as a communication badge - a wearable mobile device backed up by voice recognition technology that allows instant communication.

Lee hopes to penetrate the healthcare market and is currently on the hunt for partners with voice and wireless skills that specialise in that vertical.

The vendor has already established a solutions provider partnership with IBM, which spawned from Big Blue's acquisition of Logicalis.

"The healthcare market represents a reasonable slice of our customer base," he said. "Globally we have in excess of 300 hospitals using Vocera and we'll leverage the experience from other markets to build a solid footprint here."

Lee also plans to target a number of other verticals such as retail, warehousing, distribution, hospitality, education and government.

"What we offer is suitable for any organisation with highly mobile staff that need to keep in constant contact," he said.

Before joining Vocera, Lee was previously at Datacraft for 14 years in a variety of roles that included engineering, sales, marketing and business development. He has also worked for Optus, Cisco Systems and IBM.
