First Wave eyes new managed service partners

Sydney-based managed services provider, First Wave Technology, is on the hunt for service integrators and ISPs as it unleashes more Web-based services into the market.

These include remote desktop software and patch management as well as an email archive service that will include comprehensive data mining capabilities for search, analysis and retrieval of corporate data.

"We only want to attract a handful of integrators and ISPs in each state that manage email environments or Internet access and applications," chief technology officer, Greg Maren, said. "If they are small or medium integrators, this will suit them well because there is no real investment for them other than bringing customers to the service.

"All the services we offer are Internet-based and, in a wholesale pay-as-you-go model they only pay for the amount of services they use."

Partners are offered free training and Maren said partners could expect healthy margins.

"Our service delivery systems are straightforward and it's much more about training partners on the benefits of the products to customers and security issues," he said.

First Wave recently scored a deal with the Australian Institute of Radiographers to deploy Marratech, a Web-based collaboration application. The pay-as-you-go application includes a range of services such as multi-user video conferencing, VoIP and application sharing.

The company knocked out two other vendors up for the tender, WebEx and Macromedia Breeze.

Maren said the deal helped to broaden customer acceptance of pay-as-you-go services rather than having them make a capital expenditure commitment. "The institute was looking for an innovative way to communicate better with clients and other members of the institute," he said.

The roll out is expected to be completed in a few months.
