Resellers offered APC data centre courses

Network infrastructure vendor, APC, has launched an online Data Centre University aimed at training partners involved in building, operating or designing server rooms and data centres.

A/NZ general manager, Gordon Makryllos said the one-hour courses were free until August. They focused on educating partners to become professional data centre advisors.

"Many resellers still do not understand the full spectrum of needs in a data centre and we are trying to educate them on the latest standards in cooling, security, racking and wiring," he said. "Unlike servers and storage technology which turns around every two years, initially data centres are not turned around that much, but because of the pressures on power, cooling and wiring that come about through new server, storage and communication technologies, they need help to update their data centres."

The website consists of 28 courses that cover data centre design and management, operations and building as well as power.

"The university is also vendor neutral so we are not pushing any APC product and the accreditation that our resellers can gain are recognised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a number of other international organisations," he said. "As it catches fire we will look to improve it by adding more courses."

Makryllos said the courses would cost about $100 each from August. Partners could also offer them to customers. They can register for the courses at www.datacentreuniversity.com.
