Optus has unveiled pricing across its iPhone 3G pre-paid and contract plans just days after Telstra revealed its own iPhone retail pricing.
Post-paid Optus customers can obtain the 8GB iPhone for $0 upfront on a $79 'yes' iPhone 3G cap. Pre-paid users can buy the 8GB model for $729 and choose any of the current pre-paid call offers.
Those wanting to access the 16GB iPhone can get it at no-cost on a $99 24-month contract.
Optus customers that sign up to a 24-month iPhone contract before August 31 will obtain free Web browsing with unlimited data for the first month. The iPhone will be available from Optus on 12-and 24-month contracts.
In contrast, Telstra's Next G iPhone 3G plans start at $30 per month with an upfront payment of $279 for the 8GB device and $399 for the 16GB version. Customers that opt for the $80 per month plan will receive the 8GB device for free and both models will be free with plans starting from $100 per month. All plans include free Wi-Fi access and are based on a 24-month contract.
In a statement, Optus consumer group marketing director, Michael Smith, said it had increased the value of its Pre-Paid Turbo Caps adding more data to recharges of $40 and upwards.
"Pre-paid customers can get their hands on this premium product and enjoy using it at a price they can afford," he said.
The telco will offer 'yes' Time and 'Recharge and Win' incentives to iPhone customers. Users will also have the chance to experience its specially designed Optus iZoo portal, which features iPhone 3G content as well as access to Google, Facebook and MySpace. Other services include access to Fox Sports coverage, True Local and Carsguide.
Optus announced its deal for the device in May. Vodafone was the first carrier to announce its relationship with the iPhone, but is yet to announce pricing.
