Gen-i lands multimillion dollar Norfolk deal

Contract requires Gen-i to supply IT&T services such as server and desktop management across Australia and New Zealand

Gen-i has scored a multimillion dollar three-year deal to deliver ICT services to the Norfolk Group.

The services provider will supply a trans-Tasman converged IT&T services including server and desktop management.

Gen-i head of sales and marketing, Shane Quinn, said Norfolk was the first substantially-sized contract it had won to supply all of its IT&T services across A/NZ under one umbrella.

Norfolk's incumbent supplier was Datacom.

"We've signed a deal where we now provide all of their server and desktop management and their IP telephony for both countries," Quinn said. "We're in the middle of implementing that and it should be up and running in the next couple of months."

Previously Gen-I supplied the customer with telecommunication services in New Zealand and had secured the same deal for its Australian contingent last year.

"We've been talking to them about a whole range of things like [Microsoft] SharePoint and new innovations that are coming up," he said. "We got to a point in our relationship where we'd done a couple of smaller projects and they're now looking at us to help guide them in terms of how to become more efficient across the network and how to make the most of it."

Quinn said Norfolk had been experiencing significant growth through customer contracts and acquisition.

"We looked at providing them with an infrastructure that is quite scalable," he said.

Gen-i has also recently renewed contracts with a number of customers including Goodman Fielder and Aon Insurance. The services provider is looking to swell its headcount by another 20 per cent and recruit technical and project management experts.

"Our focus in the ICT area is around virtualisation applications and information management, which are strong technical roles," Quinn said.
