DiData launches office sustainability services

Modules include Accounting and Reporting, Stakeholder Engagement, Opportunity Analysis and Emissions Reduction

Dimension Data has released a set of green IT consulting services to help organisations build a corporate strategy around reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

The services are broken up into four modules: Accounting and Reporting, Stakeholder Engagement, Opportunity Analysis and Emissions Reduction.

Chief technology officer (CTO), Gerard Florian, said DiData had been working in this space for quite a while. The services derived from its experience of putting together a submission for the Carbon Disclosure Project.

"There were some things we learnt that we can apply to help out our clients," he said. "Customers are asking us a bunch of questions and we're going through the experience so we've put together these services specifically targeted at office-based companies."

The services aim to help organisations identify opportunities and develop a plan around reducing the impact on the environment.

"We can see there are a lot of CIOs that want to do something and we believe that our sustainability services will help them take that lead and make it real," Florian said.

"Lots of CIOs are looking at technology and video conferencing. They may be aware that travel savings are a good thing at a cost level, but they're probably not aware of how much the travel budget is or how much money is spent on planes or in running motor vehicles.

"They're most definitely not aware of the carbon emissions impact of that and what it might cost from an offset point of view."

DiData will target its services towards legal, accounting, engineering, financial services, education and government agencies.

"Most government agencies now have specific targets that need to be met," Florian said.

"CIOs in a range of different areas are under pressure. From a target point of view, there are a number of potential areas of interest."
