Defence signs content management contract

The Department of Defence has signed a three-year agreement for a Web content and workflow management enterprise solution, for an undisclosed sum, believed to be worth millions of dollars.

The Defence Department's CIO, Patrick Hannan, said the agreement was the result of a collaboration between the department and content management specialist HarvestRoad to develop a Web content management solution suited to organisations of the scale and diversity of the department.

Hannan said the solution will provide the department with an industrially robust product with functionality specifically suited to the department.

The solution uses a software product called HarvestRoad Hive to deliver secure, personalised content in a scalable and cost-effective manner, he said.

Initially, the Defence Department will use the HarvestRoad Hive product to establish a number of intranets, including its chief executive instructions and Australian Defence Force pay and conditions.

"HarvestRoad Hive also offers some exciting opportunities that are now being evaluated in the area of learning content management for our e-learning initiatives," Hannan said.

A CIO intranet site was used as the pilot for the rollout.
