ispONE has formed a partnership with Optus
Wholesale internet and communications provider, ispONE, has formed a partnership with Optus to offer wholesale mobile broadband services through the telco's 3G dual band network to new and existing customers.
ispONE director, Zac Swindells, said Optus’ 3G coverage and the product’s adaptability were key reasons the wholesaler signed with the telco.
“On a wholesale level, Optus has the best 3G offering,” he said. “What is also important is that they are offering the product as a layer two and a layer three virtual private network service, giving ispONE and our wholesale customers more control over the service and added value. This is invaluable for smaller ISPs to create their own differentiation points.”
The service has been in operation on a trial basis since December last year with regional players, such as Energy Country, participating.
Swindells claimed the product would aide wholesale customers service rural areas where fixed line broadband is hard to obtain.
“Our customers are taking advantage of the coverage Australia-wide,” he said. “It does have a really big part to play in regional Australia or for people who can’t get broadband, which has always been an issue in the past.”
While the company struck a deal with Telstra that allowed access to fixed line ADSL2+ services on the telco’s network in January, Swindells indicated ispONE is moving towards a mobile solution.
"People want to have access to their services wherever they are and mobile," he said. "It’s a growing market that has the potential to overtake fixed line services."
