The ACCC has obtained a Federal Court injunction against IT and consulting company, Zanok Technologies, for allegedly placing misleading advertisements.
The injunction, which was delivered following legal proceedings on May 13, prevents Zanok and its directors from “providing IT training which is materially different from the training for which a person has paid”, a statement from the ACCC said.
The ACCC has alleged Zanok placed misleading ads on various websites including MyCareer, Seek and Gumtree offering jobs in the IT industry when it was actually offering training in exchange for money.
The watchdog claimed there was no genuine guarantee of a job at the end of the training process, therefore breaching of sections 51AA, 52, 53B and 58 of the Trade Practices Act, for misleading or deceptive conduct.
The ACCC also alleged that both directors, Darley Stephen and Vanitha Darley, were knowingly involved in the misleading advertisements.
The injunction requires Zanok to offer job applicants seven days to think about signing training agreements before any money is exchanged or a contract signed.
ARN has attempted to contact Zanok through three telephone numbers listed on its website, but all lines were either disconnected or unanswered. Messages left on Zanok's phone system were not returned.
The matter has been stood over until its next hearing on May 27.
