CommSecure scores Hong Kong contract

Sydney-based online payment developer CommSecure has been appointed by investment firm HSBC Asia-Pacific in Hong Kong to redesign and implement a new personal banking site.

CommSecure has been retained by the investment company after one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, Internet Spider, built HSBC's online trading system. Internet Spider is a Web integration company that builds the back ends of complex Web sites.

Roy Loyzaga, managing director of CommSecure, said HSBC's current personal banking system has been modified many times and has around 200 inconsistencies in its design from the constant changes. CommSecure hopes to build a system that is consistent enough to be used as a platform for all of HSBC's personal banking services throughout the region. Loyzaga said the contract would earn CommSecure in excess of $HK1 million.

"We are re-implementing their personal banking site to make it more consistent and optimal across all browsers," he said.

CommSecure has also completed online payment gateways for Australian companies such as Westpac's NetDirect service, UUNet and OzEmail. The company runs a two-pronged channel strategy, offering opportunities to both technical and non-technical resellers. Technical resellers include Web development houses that do the technical implementation of the CommSecure gateway themselves and take a cut of the transactional revenues. There are other resellers and distributors that simply hand over their customers to CommSecure and get a reseller's fee. Examples of CommSecure's 30-plus channel partners include Asia On-line, Buzzle, Conexus and Peakhour.
