Logica scores $18 million CrimTrac contract

Deal will build ICT infrastructure to help track criminals across states and territories

IT services provider, Logica, has won an $18 million dollar contract to build and support ICT infrastructure for government agency, CrimTrac.

CrimTrac is an inter-governmental organisation with national criminal databases that works towards the sharing of data and investigative tools across state and territory borders.

The agreement is comprised of both the build, which has already commenced and is scheduled to be completed by April 2010, and three years of ongoing environment administration and management for the organisation’s 220 employees.

“After three years it’s up to CrimTrac whether they decide to extend, go back to market or take it in-house,” Logica’s sales director for services, Bernadette Harkin, said.

Logica will be providing a range of solutions including virtualisation to improve scalability. According to a statement released by the company, it will be adding to the existing IT infrastructure with VMware, EMC, Oracle and Microsoft products.

The deal is the latest in a string of government contracts awarded to Logica. In May, it scored a $7.6 million deal with the National Health and Medical Research Council and in June it signed a five-year outsourcing contract with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA).

It is currently part of the Tasmanian government’s ICT supplier panel.

“Logica has been acquiring new customers in Canberra recently so it’s part of our program to grow our presence in Canberra further,” Harkin said. “We always hope that we can reference our customers in the future.”
