Datacom has splashed out $10 million on acquiring a datacentre in Perth to improve its presence in the region.
The facility was purchased from Perth iX, and is expected to service primarily corporate and enterprise customers.
Datacom managing director for Western Australia (WA), Basil Lenzo, said the acquisition had become necessary to support the vision of being the partner of choice to local players.
In addition to the acquisition price, Datacom is looking at investing a further $2.5 million to add 100 racks to its capacity. The facility is running with 190 of its 200-racks filled to capacity.
“There are very few tier 3 datacentres of this kind in Perth,” Lenzo said. “It broadens our capacity in the market, and adds another two staff to our 60-strong workforce, with additional hires to come.”
The datacentre features security measures such as biometrics and smart card controlled access to all computer rooms, video monitoring and recording across all areas.
It also includes a very early smoke detection alarm with gas fire suppression and tier three redundancies across all generators and cooling units.
The site contains 24/7 manning capabilities, allowing round the clock remote and physical access.
Datacom entered the WA marketplace in 2007. In the two-and-a-half years since, it has generated $45 million in revenue per year.
