NSW Government names five datacentre candidates

The five candidates are Global Switch, Gresham, Leighton, Macquarie Capital and the Plenary Group

The NSW Government has shortened its list of potential candidates for its mass datacentre consolidation.

It has been cut down from 17 candidates to five, which includes Global Switch, Gresham, Leighton, Macquarie Capital and the Plenary Group.

Minister for Commerce, Paul Lynch, said the five organisations will be invited to a comprehensive request-for-tender to help meet the NSW Government’s growing demand for data storage and computing capacity.

Some of the companies that missed out on the top five include CSC, Oracle, Datacom, Fujistu and Canberra Data Centres.

“This is a bold step by the NSW Government to consolidate its agencies’ data centre capacity,” Lynch said in a statement. “This project will not only ensure capacity and safety in relation to government data needs but will also deliver important environmental benefits.”

“The data centre reform process has been welcomed by the market and will set the standard for government data facilities in Australia.”

The NSW Government is looking to consolidate its datacentre facilities from 130 to two.

“The shortlisted applicants have demonstrated they can meet the high standards set by the NSW Government,” he said. “They will have the opportunity to tender for the construction, operation and ongoing management of the two facilities.”
