HP has promoted Darren Read as its director of networking in the South Pacific region covering Australia and New Zealand. He was previously services sales leader within HP’s Technology Services (TS) division where he was responsible for growing TS services sales profitably in enterprise, government and commercial markets for the annuity and Services Solutions business. In his new role, Read will be responsible for the combined HP ProCurve and 3Com product portfolio. He will be based in Sydney and will report to Paul Robson, who has recently been appointed vice-president and general manager of HP Networking, Asia Pacific and Japan. Part of Read’s focus is to ensure HP has the right coverage model in the market, right channel programs and activities. He will also be responsible for launching the new HP certification program in November.
Security vendor, CA Technologies, has shaken up its Australian operations and appointed five new divisional heads. CA Technologies managing director, Brenton Smith, said the appointments were made on April 1 and had resulted in a quarter of improved performance. While 13 sales staffers were made redundant as part of the move, Smith said 10 more were hired in their place. Smith also claimed the redundancies were made to refocus sales away from a direct model towards a channel strategy using Managed Service Providers. Former Oracle director and Citrix regional channel manager, Carl Terrantroy, will be placed in charge of CA’s cloud business. Smith said it was Terrantroy’s unique skillset which helped formulate the shift in business model. Service Assurance will be run under former MKS Software sales manager, David Balazsy, while Virtualisation and Service Automation is now the responsibility of former Symantec business development manager, Peter Sharples. Clarity and Security have been brought together under former Niku pre-sales consultant, John Kearney, and the Mainframe unit will now be run by former EDS staffer, Savio Saldanha.
Customer engagement software vendor, Thunderhead, has appointed Nick Smith as vice-president of operations in Asia-Pacific. He will be in charge of driving aggressive growth in Australia and Asia. The role is based in Sydney. Smith was previously with SaaS collaboration vendor, Cisco Online, in Australia. He has also worked for analyst firm, Gartner. “Nick’s appointment is another step in our global expansion plan and is further evidence of our commitment to change customer engagement for the better,” Thunderhead CEO, Glen Manchester, said. Thunderhead has been in the Australian market for six years.
Melbourne-based IT infrastructure provider, Netsolutions, has expanded its headcount on the back of a successful financial year. It has appointed Steve Tester as its senior consultant and Tas Dionisakos as its senior engineer. The company claims it has doubled its Juniper Networks revenue in the first six months of 2010 compared to 2009. Both new appointments will report to general manager, Erin Harte. Tester will be tasked with providing senior consultancy to customers, helping them to integrate their business and technology functions, while Dionisakos will focus on growing the Netsolutions Linux support offering. Prior to joining the company, Tester worked as an independent consultant, helping companies improve operational performance through developing and implementing training programs and procedures. He has more than 15 years consulting experience and has held a number of senior roles at PMP Print. Dionisakos previously worked for Goldman Sachs, where he was Linux lead engineer.
Oracle has named Patricia Nance as its new head of alliances and channels. She replaces Paul Muller, who has shifted to the company’s technology licence part of the business for the Northern Region. Nance has a strong background in IT, services and the public sector. She has worked as the CEO of Distillery Software, the general manager of Oracle Asia’s public sector, as well as a sales director for Unisys and sales executive for Digital Equipment Corp.
