Inside Vocus' new Sydney datacentre.
Wholesale telecommunications provider, Vocus (ASX:VOC), has launched its new datacentre in Alexandria, Sydney.
Shadow Communications Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, officially opened the datacentre.
The high-density co-location facility was inherited through the telco’s $5.9 million acquisition of E3 Networks’ datacentre business. Founder of E3 Networks, Jon Eaves, has become the Vocus datacentres general manager.
Supporting up to 30kW/128 Amps per rack, the new Sydney facility has a floor space of 400sqm. It has two contained levels with the first floor already occupied by three suites of high-density rooms and the roof houses cooling equipment for the rooms.
The facility is powered by one of the largest substations dedicated to a datacentre anywhere in Australia, according to Vocus.
Datacentre managed service provider, Harbour MSP, is one of the first clients of the datacentre after signing a $2 million contract with Vocus. At this stage, only 76 racks are left in the facility to sell to customers.
Harbour MSP recently took up 1000sqm in NextDC's Melbourne facility.
