In a move to strengthen its presence in the U.S. government IT market, CA Technologies has acquired Base Technologies, a privately held consulting firm that specializes in managing IT assets for U.S. public sector agencies.
With a workforce of more than 200 personnel, Base maintains practices in virtualization, mainframes, security and managed IT infrastructure. It also offers services in transportation systems management and health care systems integration.
CA will retain Base's current management team to operate the company autonomously, as a wholly-owned subsidiary. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Base will focus on helping government clients better manage their large-scale IT projects, get more use from their existing IT assets, and to figure out how to best use cloud computing and virtualization technologies, noted Adam Elster, a CA general manager for services, in a press statement.
In operation for 23 years, Base has worked for U.S. federal agencies such as the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, National Institutes of Health and Federal Aviation Administration.
Federal IT analyst firm Input has estimated that the U.S. government will spend $86 billion this year in software and IT services.
In January, CA acquired Australian telecom consultancy Torokina.
